Tirupati Tourism Information

Tirupati is one of the most ancient pilgrimages in India. Tirupati is a temple town situated at Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh in India.

Tirupati temple is a richest and most visited religious center in the world followed by the Vatican. Tirupati temple is devoted to the Lord Venkateswara, one of the Avatars of Lord Vishnu.

This temple is located on the Tirumala hills. Sri Venkateswara University, One of the three major universities in Andhra Pradesh, is also situated Tirupati town.

History of Tirupati:

The all major dynasties of south like Pallavas (9yh century), Cholas (10th century), Pandyas, and Vijayanagara pradhans (14th and 15th century) were committed devotees of Lord Venkateswara. After the decline of Vijayanagara Empire, King from various states like Gadwal and Mysore worshiped the Lord as pilgrims and gifted precious ornaments and valuables to the temple.

Raghoji Bhonsle, the Maharastrian commander made a permanent arrangement regarding the regular pujas of Lord Venkateswara. Between 1843 and1933 the administration of temple was over looked by Hatthimji monastery in Tirumala. In 1933 the Madras government appointed a Commission to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam through a special statutory authority to run the administration of the temple.

Sri Venkateswara Temple:

the most visited and richest religious center in the world. Sri Venkateswara Temple is located on the seventh peak of the Tirupati Hills. It is by the Lord’s presidency over Venkatachala, that he has received the appellation, Venkateswara (Lord of the Venkata Hills).

The temple has its origins in Vaishnavism, an ancient sect which believes in the principles of equality and love, and prohibits sacrifice. The benefits acquired by the pilgrimage to Venkatachala are clearly mentioned in the Rig Veda and Asthadasa Puranas.

The sanctum sanctorum which houses the awe-inspiring idol of the Lord Sri Venkateswara is situated in the main temple complex of Tirumala.

Sri Govindarajaswami Temple, Sri Kapileswaraswami Temple, Sri Kodandaramaswami Temple, Sri Bedi Anjaneyaswami Temple, and many other such holy pilgrimages (Temple) are situated in and around of the Tirupati city, which must need to visit by tourist.
