The city of Yoga

The city of yoga and spirituality, Rishikesh, is situated at the bank of holy Ganga River in Uttarakhand, India.

This is a place from where Ganga leaves the rock of mountains and enters in wide world of plain land.

Rishikesh is a place which is covered by the Shivalik mountain range from three sides.

The holy city, Rishikesh, has become a yoga education and practice destination in the map of world tourism. Many people come here to learn Yoga & meditation.

History:

In some of the oldest cities in India, Rishikesh one of them. According to mythological believed Raibhay Rishi performed several penance for long years. God rewarded him and appeared in the look of Rishi, and than the name Rishikesh derived form there. During 9th century Adi Shankaracharya also performed a penance in this holy city Rishikesh.

As a religious and spiritual city, Rishikesh has some very religious and exciting sights for visit, some of them are:

Triveni Ghat:

Most prominent ghat of Rishikesh, situated at the center of city.

Every morning and evening rituals and Aarti perform by the different people in this holy ghat.

It’s believed that if one takes a dip on Ganga River at this ghat, he becomes free from all his past sins.

Lakshman Jhula:

one of the oldest architectural structures Lakshman Jhula is a landmark of Rishikesh. This old footbridge situated 2 km upstream from the city.

Bharat Mandir:

Bharat Mandir the oldest temple of Rishikesh, situated at the bank of river Ganga. It is believed that this temple was built by Adi Shankaracharya, during his visit to the city in 9th century.

Muni-ki-reti:

Muni-ki-reti is a nearby place of Rishikesh. In this place one can enjoy the sand games, and close chat with fishes by feed them some good stuff.

Except these tourist places, you can go for the different temples, ashrams and near by forest. Every year tourism department of Uttarakhand organizes a week long yoga festival in the city.
