The city of lake

Nainital lays a scenic beauty with a splendid climate in his arm. It’s like a small child is playing in his mother’s lap.

Nainital is one of the famous tourist hill stations in India. Nainital has earned a credit of ‘Lake district’. Nainital popularly called ‘Naini’.

City delivered a name Nainital from a temple of goddess ‘Naini Devi’ which is situated at the upper end of the Naini Lake.

Nainital gives you a chance to romance with a scenic beauty in the arm of clouds.

History of Nainital:

Mr. Barron was the first European who first touched the beauty of Nainital, he found Nainital in year 1841. He was a European Businessman and a passionate hunter from shahjahanpur. But very few know that this portion of kumaon region ruled by the khasis emperors and called Khasdesh in ancient time. According to mythological tale the eyes of sati Parvati dropped in the lake, and the place got his name as Nainital. ‘Naini’ mean ‘eyes’ and ‘tal’ mean ‘Lake’.

Nainital Tourist Attractions


Nainital city situated at the 6,360 ft above sea level. Except the Naini Lake, which is dragged in the center of city, some other eye catching tourist spots in Nainital are: China Peak, snow view, Tiffin Top, Lands End, Hanuman Garh, Sariatal, and Observatory.

China Peak:

The most favorite tourist spot for the trekkers. It is a highest peak of Nainital with a 2611 meter height. It is 6 km away from the main Nainital city.

The main attraction of the peak is to see the bird’s eye view of Naini Lake from the brisk cold height.

Snow View:

One of the most visited tourist spot of Nainital. Snow view is situated 3 km from main city at 2270 meter height. One could reach here by foot or via cable car. It provides a scenic view of Nainital and 350 km long Himalayan range.

Tiffin Top:

This is another peak of Nainital, which is situated at 2290 meter height and 3 km from the city. Also known as ‘Dorothy seat’ in the memory of Mrs. Kellet Dorothy, she was killed in an air crash during her visit to the Tiffin top.

Lands End:

At 2114 meter above this is the most adventurous tourist place of Nainital. Land End gives the imagination that this is a last end of world. From here you can see the magnificent view of plains and Kupra Tal.

Hanuman Garh:

This famous temple of Lord Hanuman is about three km from the Nainital city. This temple is one of the most visited religious tourist spot of Nainital. You can get the magnificent view of sunset from here.

Saria Tal:

This is a famous picnic spot of Nainital at a distant of 9 km from city. In Saria Tal you will find a small lake and a waterfall for fun. You can visit this place by tracking with a shorter distance of 4.5 km form Nainital.

Observatory:

It is a study center for astronomical studies. It is situated at an altitude of 1951 meter and 4.5 km from Nainital city. Visitors can see the some instruments during working hours and for night visit permission is needed by the observatory department.

Market:

Bara Bazaar, Bhotia market and mini mall road shops are the main market of Nainital. From here tourists can buy the items which could be the monument for them to recall their Nainital visit, later. In these shops you can get beautiful woolen clothes, herbal items, naturally made wooden structures and so many other exciting items. Nainital is famous for its beautiful and artistic candles.
