The dusty land of Rajasthan has a surprise for you and this surprise is, Mount Abu.

The only hill station or highest peak of Aravali Mountains in the state of Rajasthan. Abu is not only a summer resort of Rajasthan, while a popular pilgrimage for different religion too.

History of Mount Abu:

It is believe that sage Vasishtha retired to the southern spur at mount Abu after following his differences with sage Vishvamitra.

During the Chauhan reign, Mount Abu was the under control of Chauhan dynasty, and they used it as a summer retreat of royalty.

Mount Abu Tourist Attractions

Being only hill destination of Rajasthan and situated at the border of Gujarat state, Mount Abu is a most visited hill station of the area. There is lot of places to visit and some of them are:

Dilwara Jain Temples:

These temples are a masterpiece of architecture. These Jain temples were constructed between 13th and 14th centuries. The oldest one, Vimal Vasahi temple, dedicated to the first Tirthankara of Jainism, was built in 1031A.D. while The Lun Vasahi temple was built in 1231A.D. the temples are superb example of craftsmanship.

Gaumukh Temple:

This is a place where sage Vasishtha performed a yagyn for defeat evil powers. The ancient beautiful sculpted temple is belonging to ‘Arbuada’, from where name of the city, Abu, derived.

Nakki Lake:

This beautiful Lake enhances the charm of hill city. This lack is surrounded by many cottages and summer houses built by the Maharajas and British. The boating facility is also available in the Lake.

Guru Shikhar:

This is a highest peak (1722) of Abu and 15 km away from the city. From here you can take a bird’s view of scenic surroundings of Mount Abu.

Except these spots Adhar Devi Temple, Achalgarh and Trevor’s tank are some other visiting places where you can explore the gorgeous beauty of Mount Abu.
