Jodhpur Tourism Information

If one wants to feel the real Royal flavor of Rajasthani culture, he should visit to Jodhpur. In Jodhpur one can get a real reflection of Manvar culture and tradition of Rajasthan.

The dynamic city is situated at the edge of Thar Desert of Rajasthan. Jodhpur is a second largest city of the Rajasthan after Jaipur.

History of Jodhpur:

The Royal city Jodhpur was established by Rao Jodhji in 15th century. In 1459 he shifted his capital from Mandore to present location.

First, he built the Mehrangarh Fort and than established a city around it. In 16th century Rao Ganga Singh joined hand with Rana Sanga, A great worrier against Mughal King Babar. During the reign of Great Akbar, Manvar successors jointed hand with Akbar and during that period Jodhpur got a chance develop as a center of art and culture. After independence of India that city merged with the Indian Territory.

Mehrangarh fort:

In 1459, Rao Jodhji founded this huge fort on 150 meter high vertical cliffs mountain range. Later other successors of the Jodhpur have also added to it over the centuries.

This fort is one of the best examples of Rajasthani architecture. Every corner of this fort is attractive like its lavishly decorated palaces, carved Jails, and panels.

A beautifully painted Phool Mahal, Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Umaid Vilas and Daulat Khana are breathtaking creations, where one can see and feel the royal remembrances.

Umaid Bhawan:

This wonderful western style magnificent palace was built by the Maharaja Umaid Singh during 1920’s and it took 16 years to complete. This 347 roomed palace was designed by the Edwardian architect, Henry Vaughan Lanchester. This well known building is one of the biggest residences in the world. Place is now converted into a luxurious five star hotel. But the museum is still open for the visitors with nominal charges. The museum is on the priority list of tourist because it gives you a chance to take close look of Royal legacy.

Guda:

This Lake is situated at Bishnoi village, very near to the Jodhpur city. If one wants to feel nature and wild life it is a best option. Guda Lake is water drinking point for antelopes and black bucks of the forest. Every year thousands of birds come here for breeding from different part of world.

Mandore Garden:

Mandore was the former capital of Manvar dynasty. In Mandor garden one can find the Chhatri shaped cenotaphs, number of temple with beautiful architecture all made by red sandstones. As you climb up the hill, you will find the ruin city of Mandor, with decayed palaces (buildings), gardens and cenotaphs.
