Haridwar Tourism Information

Haridwar is a gateway to God’s land Uttarakhand. Haridwar is one of the holiest pilgrimages for the believers of world’s oldest religion, Sanatan dharm (Hinduism). Haridwar is located at the bank of holy river Ganga.

This spiritual old city is a crowded town with temples, ashrams and ghats. It’s believed that if one take a dip on Ganga’s water at Har-ki-pauri, the whole sin done by him will be abolish.

Kumbh Mela and Ardh-Kumbh Mela are the world biggest religious fairs held in Haridwar after every 12 and 6 year respectively.

History:

Haridwar is one of the oldest living cities, the life is moving here more than many decades. The first written evidence about the city found in the account of Huan Tsang, a Chinese traveler. Initially Mauryan dynasty, Chandra Gupta’s dynasty ruled the region on BC and later Mughals and British ruled the city. But from long time Haridwar is a place for religion spirituality.

Haridwar is a religious city for long in itself and Har-ki-pauri is a most holy site of city. But except this, there are so many other religious tourist sights, who tale the story that why Haridwar is a truly religious.

Har-ki-pauri:

This ghat was constructed by king Vikramaditya on the memory of his brother, Bhartrihari. It is believed that his brother came to Haridwar for meditation on the bank of holy river Ganga. Later this ghat came to be known as Har-ki-pauri. Every evening an Aarti performs at Har-ki-pauri, offers to goddess Ganga. This is a divine experience for the visitors and no visitor should miss it.

Chandi Devi Temple:

The temple of Goddess Chandi Devi was built by Suchat Singh a King from Kashmir in 1929 AD. Chandi temple is located at the top of Neel Parvat. It is believed that main idol of Goddess was established by the Adi Shankaracharya in 8th century.

Mansa Devi Temple:

This temple is belong to the Goddess Mansa, a Goddess fulfill all desire of the devotee. Mansa Devi temple is situated at the top of Bilwa Parvat. This is a most popular tourist place in the Haridwar. One can reach there by foot or by cable car, which offers a cool view of Haridwar city from atop.

Haridwar consider as a city of temples, some other popular temples of the region are Maya Devi temple, Parad Shivling, Sapta Rishi ashram, and Bharat Mata Mandir. If you want go for wild tour can choose Raja Ji National Park as a safari destination.
