Guwahati Tourism Information

Guwahati city consider as a gateway of North-Eastern region of the India. Guwahati is situated at the bank of Brahmaputra River in Indian state of Assam. Guwahati is a tea city of India, due to the largest producer of tea in India.

Dispur, the capital of Assam is situated within the city. Guwahati is one of the rapidly growing cities in India. The city is well connected by rail, train, and air to the other parts of country.

History of Guwahati:

It is believed that Guwahati is one of the oldest cities of Asia.

Kamarupa kingdom, Koch Hajo Kingdom, and Ahom Kingdom were the main Ruler, who ruled the city in past. Mughals attacked Assam for 17 times and many a time temporarily fell to them. Later city was ruled by British and after independence Guwahati became a part of India.

The picturesque Brahmaputra, River islands like Umananda, Beaches, Natural lakes, thick green forests Beach-islands, and beautiful hills makes a one of the most beautiful tourist destination of South Asia. Guwahati tourist sites are full life, and some such paradises of Guwahati are:

Kamakhya Temple:

The temple is devoted to Kamakhya Devi, the Goddess of desire. This ancient temple is situated of Nilachal hills.

This temple is center of devotees through the year and mainly during the Ambubachi /mela.

Gandhi Mandap:

This is a memorial built honor of Mahatama Gandhi and situated on the top of sarania hills.

Pan Bazaar:

This is a most lively part of the city, situated at the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River. All the major government offices like District court, RBI etc and all good shopping stop are situated in this area.

Apart from these shopping destinations Paltan Bazaar, Ganeshguri, and Beltola Bazaar are other hang out places in Guwahati city.
