The city of power

A modern city with a great past, New Delhi is a capital of world’s largest running democracy, the Republic of India.

New Delhi is a center of Power and governance of India from a long period.

Delhi is a fast growing metropolitan city. Headquarters of all major government departments and institutes are situated in Delhi.

From more than 2000 year this city is serving as a most powerful city of India.

History of Delhi:

Indian history begins with Delhi. The first indication of human habitation is believed in second millennium BC, during and before the Mahabharata era, and that place known as Indraprastha. But the authentic facts of human habitation found by archeological survey of India, shows that settlement of a city grew during Mauryan dynasty (300 BC). In the 736 AD Tomara dynasty founded the city as Lal Kot.

In 1180 the Chauhan Gujars of Ajmer captured Lal Kot and renamed it Qila Rai Pithora. After them many dynasties hold the city like Mohammed Gauri, Slave dynasty, Khilji Dynasty, Tughluq dynasty, Sayyid Dynasty and Lodi dynasty. In 1526 Babar defeated the last Lodi sultan and captured the city. Mughal dynasty ruled in North India for more than three centuries. After the Indian rebellion of 1857, Delhi ruled by the British directly. After the Independence of India Delhi declared the Capital of the nation.

New Delhi’s Tourist Attractions


Qutub Minar, Lotus Temple, Lal Qila, National Zoological park, Rashtrapati Bhawan are some major attractions of Delhi’s tourist guide, but there are so many other interesting places to explore. Some such tourist spots of Delhi are:

Qutub Minar:

Qutub is a highest stone tower in India. The construction of this building was started by the Qutub-ud-din Aibak in 1199 A.D. and completed by Son-in-law Shamsud-din-iltutmish in 1230. This five story building standing at 72.5 meters, first two towers were built by Qutub-ud-din Aibak and top three stories were built by the Shamsud-din-iltutmish. Qutub Minar is located at Mahruli in New Delhi, capital of India. Some other structures in the Qutub complex are Tomb of Litutmish, which was constructed in 1235 AD.

Alai Minar, was constructed by Alauddin-khilji, Quwwat-ul-Islam, a mosque constructed by Qutub-ud-din in 1198. The famous iron pillar, which was erected in the 4th century also situated at Qutub complex.

India Gate:

India gate was constructed by Edwin Lutyens during the period of 1921- 1931. Earlier it was known as ‘All India war memorial’ actually it was made on the memory of those Indian soldiers, who lost their lives in world war-II and Afghan war. This 42 meter high structure located at the heart of New Delhi. An eternal flame (Amar Jawan Jyoti) burns at the foot of the gate and names of 90,000 martyred Indian solders are inscribed on the walls of the India gate.

Dilli Haat:

Dilli Haat is one of the famous hanging out sights of Delhi. One can get different type of handicraft items, which displays here, come from across the country. Dilli Haat is developed by the government for the promotion of handicraft industry and provides a market for ruler artisans. Dilli Haat is situated opposite INA market, near AIIMS.

Chandni chowk:

Chandni chowk is an oldest market of Delhi and it is situated opposite to Red Fort. This one of the most crowded places of Delhi still have a feel of old era, it was established by Mughal emperor Shahjahan. It has a numbers of gullis (lanes) Like Paratta wali gulli (famous for different verities of parattas), a gulli where one can get any type of real or artificial jewelry and a gulli where all type of electric items available to you.

Old fort:

This fort was built by Sher Shah Suri during 1538-1545. This is an enormous piece of architecture. The Fort has three big gates, of late only one gate is using for entry in the Fort. The Fort needs a renovation, but still there are a lot of wonderful places to visit.

Humayun’s tomb:

This tomb was built by Humayun’s wife Haji Begum on his memory, in 1565-66. This red and white huge building is a memorable piece of architecture, which inspired Shahjahan to build the wonder, Taj Mahal.
