Darjeeling Tourism Information

In 16th century Darjeeling was the part of Sikkim state. In 1780 Gorkhas captured the town and ruled till 1814. That year British attacked and defeated Gourkhs in that battle. After that British gave back town to Sikkim, but in 1835 king of Sikkim gifted it to British. British developed the town as rest and recreation center for the troops.

Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park:

This animal park was established in year 1954. This Zoo consider as one of the best Zoos of the country. Some endangered animal breeds like Red Panda, Tibetan wolf, snow Leopard and the Siberian tiger breed here successfully. So tourists can enjoy the meeting with these endangered living wonders.

Happy Valley Tea Garden:

This tea garden is situated not more than few km from the main town. If you like a silence and want to hear sweet voice of wild birds, than this will be perfect place for you.

Yogochoeling Gompa:

This is one of the best monasteries in Darjeeling. It is just 8 km away from the town. For explore the Buddhism, it is a best place to go in Darjeeling.

Dhirdham Temple:

It is a famous Hindu temple, was built in 1939. It is a replica of famous Pasupatinath temple of Kathmandu, Nepal.
