Coimbatore Tourism Information

Coimbatore is a major industrial city of an Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore is situated at the bank of the Noyyal River. Coimbatore is also known as Koneyammanputhhur, which means ‘Birth place of the Goddess’.

Coimbatore is second largest city of Tamil Nadu, and famous for its textile factories, engineering firms, automobile part manufacturers, health care facilities and hospitality.

History of Coimbatore:

the earlier history of the Coimbatore city is scarce. It is to believe that the region around Coimbatore was amongst the first places in Tamil Nadu, where the local Tamil speaking people set up territorial states.

Later all the major south Indian clans ruled the region like the Choles, the Pandyas, and the Cheras or Keralas. In 14th century famous Vijayanagara dynasty also ruled the region. For a shorter period Mughal also ruled the area, but finally in 18th century British hold the region. After independence Coimbatore became a part of Indian Nation.

Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary:

Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park is situated about 90 km from Coimbatore. Wildlife sanctuary is located at an altitude of 1,400 m in the Western Ghats near Pollachi. It stretches over an area of about 958 sq. km.

This tourist site also known as Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and is said to be an ecological paradise. So it could be very good chance for tourists to enjoy the forest tourism of Tamil Nadu.

Perur Patteeswaraswamy Temple:


The Perur Patteeswaraswamy temple is situated on the shores of River Noyyal, 7 km from Coimbatore. It is one of the most popular temples of Coimbatore and has huge statues. Its reference can be found in the poetic creations of Arunagiri Nather and Kachiappa Munivar.

Khadi Gandhi Gallery:

The Khadi Gandhi gallery was set up on 15th of July 1970 for displays pictures of Gandhi right from his birth to his death. It houses some of the rare photographs titled 'Journey through Harijan Life', 'Family', 'Friends', 'Independence Struggle', 'Jail Life' and 'Peace Talks'.

Thiruppur, Thirumoorthy Temple, Forest College Museum, and V O C Park are some other tourist sites of Coimbatore. With out visit these places Coimbatore tour cannot be completed.
