Bodh Gaya Tourist Attractions

Due to the holy pilgrimage for Buddhist, it is a most visit place for Buddhists. Buddhist from all over the world has built temples here in Bodh Gaya. Therefore there are some very holy and interesting places for visit.

Mahabodhi Temple:

This temple is situated at the same position, where Lord Buddha attained the enlightenment. After 250 year of Buddha’s enlightenment King Ashoka visited the place and constructed a hug and luxurious temple. This temple was destroyed by Muslims in the 11th century.

The present temple was restored around 1880. Inside the temple a huge idol of Buddha is present. In the center of temple there is also a Shivlinga. This temple is also sacred to the Hindu because Lord Buddha is a ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

Bodhi Tree:

This is a tree under which Buddha attained the enlightenment (said to be a descendent of the Bodhi tree). A sapling of original tree was carried by Emperor Ashok’s daughter (Sanghamitra) to Sir Lanka.

A cutting from that tree planted in Buda Gaya, when original tree died. The tree is located behind the temple and this 115 year old tree is 80 feet high.

Arimeshlochana:

it is believed that Buddha spent one week looking towards the great Mahabodhi tree out of gratitude, without twinkling his eyes.

Ratnagar:

It is believed that this is a place where Buddha spent a week and five colors came out of his body.
