History of Bhubaneshwar:

The historical evidence of the city goes back to 2000 years. It had been ruled by the many different dynasties (belonged to Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism sects of religions) in the past. Bhubaneshwar was the part of ancient kingdom of Kalinga during 4th century BC. The great Kalinga war was held in this place between the Mauryan and Kalinga armies.

In fifth century AD, Bhubaneshwar became the center of Shaivite Hinduism and Hinduism flourished lot that time. In 15th century city was ruled by Mughal’s and they destroyed many temples during their regime. Later it passed from the Maratha’s to British hands. The modern city was planned by Otto H. Koenigsberger, a German town planner.

Raj Rani Temple:

This temple was built in 11th century. This temple is dedicated to Lord Brahma, but is no longer used for worship. The temple is famous for its statues of nymphs, carving of elephants and lions with other stone carvings.

Mukteshwar temple:

This temple has a 10.5 meter long tower and built in 10th century. The decorated premise is a wonderful example of architecture.

Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves:

These caves are situated on the Udayagiri and Khandagiri hills about five km from Bhubaneshwar city. There are total forty-four caves carved out of sandstone, Rani ka Naur and Chota Hathi Gupha are most beautiful caves of the premises. Jaya Vijaya cave, Swargapuri, the Ganesh Gupha and the Bagh Gupha are other famous caves.

Vaital Deul Temple, Siddeswara Temple, Parasurameswar Temple are other famous temples of the Bhubaneshwar, which should must visit by tourists.
