Ayodhya Tourism Information

Ayodhya is a one of the most prestigious pilgrimage site of Hindu religion. The ancient Ayodhya city is lying on the bank of Saryu River and presently comes under the district Faizabad in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.

It is a city of Ram, a hero of Hindu epic Ramayana. In Ayodhya city you will find lot of temples and it is a worship place of other religion too.

History of Ayodhya:

This ancient city is believed to be the birth place of Lord Ram. According to mythology Ayodhya was the capital city of Kaushal dynasty of great king Dasaratha.

This city was established by the Raja Manu. Ayodhya is also a birth place of 5 Tirthankars of Jainism, the father of Jainism and first Tirthankar, Shri Rishabh Dev were also born here.

The monuments and Buddhist temple also indicated that this was the major center of Buddhism during the Mauryan Empire (King Ashoka). During the rule of Gupta Dynasty, city was in his peak in every term.

Ayodhya Tourist Attractions

This holy ancient city has a lot of such places, who touches your spiritual and religious side and some of them are:

Nageshwarnath Temple:

It is to believe that this temple was built by Kush, the son of Lord Ram. The temple was erected by Kush, for a nag-kanya, who loved him. It is said that this only temple have survived till the time of Vikramaditya, while the whole city was fallen and converted into ruin.

This temple helped the Vikramaditya to relocate the city. Every year at the time of Maha Shivratri a grand festival held in this place.

Treta ke Thakur:

It is to believe that in this place Lord Ram performed the Ashvamedha Yagya. Raja of Kullu built a temple, about 300 year ago and later in 1784 temple improved by Ahalyabai Holker of Indore. The black sandstone idol situated at the temple was recovered from Saryu and placed in the temple, famous as Kaleram-ka-Mandir.

Ramkot:

This is a chief place of worship in Ayodhya. This place is situated at the site of the ancient citadel of Ramkot. This place is most visited site of Ayodhya and devotees come from all over the country, though out the year.

Swarg Dwar:

According to mythology, Lord Ram is said to have cremated here.

Mani Parbat and Sugriv Parbat:

These two are the ancient earth mounds first one is identify by a stupa, built by the Emperor Ashoka and second one is believed to be an ancient monastery.

The Hanuman Garhi:

This temple is situated at the center of the city. It is to believe that Hanuman lived here in a cave and guarded the janmabhoomi or Ramkot. The main temple has a statue of Maa Anjani, with Bal Hanuman in her lap. This is most visited holy shrine in Ayodhya.
