Aurangabad Tourism Information

Aurangabad is a city situated at Maharashtra in India. This city is a major tourist hub due to the archeological importance. Aurangabad city is surrounded by hills of the Vindhya Range and Kham River Passes through it.

The world heritage sites like Ajanta and Ellora is situated in Aurangabad district. The city got his name from the Mughal emperor Aurangzab. The total population of the city is more than 5 lacks (Mostly Hindus and Muslims) and Hindi, Urdu, Marathi and English are major spoken language.

History of Aurangabad:

This region was discovered by the Buddhist, during the Mauryan dynasty and built magnificent rock temples of Ajanta and Ellora between 200BC and 650 AD. But the history of Aurangabad city started from 1610 when Malik Amber, Prime Minster of Muetaza Nizam Shah II of Ahmednagar, founded this place (Kirki Village). Later this place ruled by Mohammed-bin-Tughlak and Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, they appointed the city as their capital on their respective reigns.

Ajanta Caves:

Ajanta Caves are one of the major tourists Attraction of India. These caves are situated at Aurangabad district of Maharashtra state in India. This tourist wonder caves is dating back from the 2nd century BCE. These rock-cut cave mountains containing paintings and sculptures considered to be masterpieces of Buddhist religious art and universal pictorial art.

Bibi-ka-Maqbara:

This monument is a mausoleum of Begam Rabia Durrani, Aurangzab’s wife. This monument is a replica of Taj Mahal and a great piece of Persian architecture.


Aurangabad Caves or Buddhist Caves:

These ancient caves are situated just few km from the Bibi-ka-Maqbara. These caves date back to the 4th -8th century, during the ruling of Vakatakas and Chaiukyas. Every cave has a lot of stories to tell and for explore these tells worth a visit.

Himroo Factory:

This factory is situated at the Zaffer Gate, if one wants to see a conventional type of Himroo wearing, must need to visit the factory. You can also buy saris and shawls from here.

Daulatabad Fort:

13 km away from the city this fort is consider as an India’s oldest existing fort. This Fort was built by Muhammad Tughlag, when he shifted his capital from Delhi to Aurangabad.

Ellora Caves:

The main attraction to visit Aurangabad is to visit Ellora caves, which is considering as a world heritage sites. Ellora is just 30 km from the city and a perfect tour site for visit.

Khuldabad:

This town is some km away from the main Aurangabad city. This town houses the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
