The city of internal beauty

Almora is famous for its breathtaking mountains, wooden forest, ancient kumaoni culture, scenic valleys, architectural beauty of old buildings and many more. Almora is a hill district of Uttarakhand state in India.

Almora is located at the altitude of 5900ft from the sea level, with an approximately population of 53.507 (1991 censes).

Almora is one of the oldest cities of Uttarakhand. The main language for communication is kumaoni but Hindi and English also use frequently.

History of Almora:

Initially ancient Almora was ruled by the Katyuri king ‘Baichaldeo’ and he donated a major portion of this land to a Brahmin Shri Chand Tiwari. Later this town ruled by the Chand kingdom and in year 1560 King Kalyan Chand properly established the town. For sometime Gorkhas also ruled in town but later British capture the town.

Almora is perfect destination for touring, natural beauty is not only attractions of Almora, there are so many tourist sights for hang out and some of them are:

Bright end corner:

Bright end corner is situated 2 km away from Almora city. It is basically famous for its sunrise and sunset seen from the peaks. In this place you can feel the internal peace of mind and soul due to its beautiful surroundings.

Kalimutt and Simtola:

These are a near by picnic spots of Almora. At these spots you can feel the gorgeous beauty of Himalaya covered with snow, pine and deodar trees.

Chitai Temple:

This one of the oldest temples of Kumaon is famous for thousands of bell, which is donated by the devotees from past many years. This temple is devoted to the Golu Devta. The temple is 8 km away from Almora, on walking distance. During a trekking you can also enjoy the beautiful forest of pine and deodar.

Nanda Devi Temple:

This temple is one of the main attractions of Almora. The more than 1000 year old temple is a respected worship place for locals. Every year a festival (kothik) is organized in the premises of temple and thousand of people take part in this festival.
