The City of faith

Allahabad is a city of spirituality. Allahabad is situated at the Delta side (A middle land between two rivers) of holy rivers Ganga and Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh a state of Indian Territory. Allahabad also known as ‘Prayag’. This is a land of Sangam of three holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati. In real it’s a Sangam of spirituality, knowledge and culture.

History of Allahabad:

Allahabad is one of the oldest cities in India. Name of this holy city is mentioned in many mythological scriptures like Vedas, Ramayana and Mahabharata as Prayag.

In year 1575 Mughal Emperor Akbar named it as ‘illhabad’ and built a fort at the bank of river Yamuna due to its strategic important. Allahabad also played an important role during independence struggle.

Allahabad Tourist Attractions

Allahabad is a religious and spiritual city, due to this reason it’s a city of temples and ashrams.

There are lots of tourists sights for visit, some of them are:

Sangam:

Sangam is a holiest place in Allahabad, where three holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati meet and this meeting point is called Sangam.

In Hindu mythology Sangam has a great importance, at every 12th year kumbh mela and every 6th year Ardh kumbh mela celebrated at Sangam.

Allahabad fort:

This fort was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar during the period of year 1557 to 1583. This imagistic fort is situated at the bank of holy river Yamuna.

Patalpuri Temple:

This is an underground temple, which is located at inside the fort. There is an immortal tree called Akshayavat and believed to have been visited by lord Ram.

Ashoka Pillar:

One of the ancient pieces of architecture, this 10.4 meter high sandstone pillar established in 232 BC.

Anand Bhawan:

This building is an ancestral house of Nehru family. This house is witnessed of many meetings, plans and strategies of freedom fighters, during freedom struggle of India. Now this building has converted in a museum. Museum opens for the visitors between 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, from Monday to Saturday.

Except these tourist spots Swaraj Bhawan, Hanuman Temple, All Saints Cathedral and Shankar Viman Mandapam are other sights, must visit.
