Ajmer Tourism Information

An oasis city of Rajasthan, Ajmer is World Wide famous for the Dargah of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti.

Ajmer is only 120 km from Jaipur. This is one of the holy Indian cities which are equally revered by the Hindus and Muslims.

History:

This city was first founded by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan of Chauhan dynasty in the 7th century. This city was under the Chauhan rulers till 1193. In 1193 this city was lost by Prithviraj Chauhan to Mohammed Guare.

Ajmer is a city of faith for Hindus and Muslims both and has some very excited places to see with joy.

The Dargah:


The Ajmer city is popular for the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti’s Dargah. This one of the holiest shrines for Muslims was built by Mughal King Humayun. It is to believe that any wish, which one will ask to Chisti Sahib, will fulfilled. Inside the holy Dargah one will find a feel of spirituality. There are two massive ‘degs’ (cauldrons) in which 4480 and 2240 kg rice can contain easily. Urs is a biggest fest of Ajmer, during Urs millions of devotees visit the shrine, and it is to believe that those visiting during Urs receive special blessings of saint.

Mayo College:

This is a one of the prominent and older education center, which was established by the British for quality schooling. It was established in 1879.

Shahjahan’s Mosque:

This magnificent white marble building is situated at the premises of Dargah. It is a perfect model of Mughal era’s architecture.

Pushkar:

This famous holy pilgrimage of Hindu religion is situated about 11 km from Ajmer. This is one of the most visited shrines of Hindu.

Market:

The main market of Ajmer is situated near the Dargah. One can shop Jodhpuri Juties, antiques, curios and silver, gold jewelry. The market flourishes during the Urs. One can enjoy the traditional marketing by purchase colorful traditional folk items.
