The City of Business

Ahmedabad is one of the major cities of India. Ahmedabad is located at the bank of Sabarmati River in Gujarat, a state of Indian Territory. Ahmedabad is a biggest city of Gujarat.

This city is a commercial center of India especially hub of textile industry.

The city is divided into Old Ahmedabad and new Ahmedabad.

It was the former capital of Gujarat state, during 1960 to 1970, before replaced by Gandhinagar.

History of Ahmedabad:

Sultan Ahmed Shah, Sultanate of Gujarat, founded the city in year 1411 and it had been capital of Sultanate for 162 years (1411-1573). In 1573 Mughal Emperor Akbar captured the city and in 1818 British rulers controlled the Ahmedabad.

Later a military cantonment established in the city, by British and its modernization started. It became a major commercial hub of British ruled India. In year 1915, Mahatma Gandhi came back from the South Africa and established a Sabarmati Ashram at the bank of Sabarmati River.

Ahmedabad is a good example of modernity and cultural city. City has a marvelous history as well as modern identity. Ahmedabad has a many beautiful tourist places to visit, some of them are:

Gandhi Ashram:

Gandhi ashram is most famous tourist place in Ahmedabad. This ashram was established by Mahatma Gandhi in year 1915, near the Sabarmati River. The ashram still working in a way, Mahatma Gandhi ran it.

Handicraft work, hand made paper factory and a spinning wheel factory performing continuously from the ashram premises.

Sidi Sayed Mosque:

This mosque is famous for carved stone work. This is a really a piece of magical architectural work.

Jumma Masjid:

This Masjid was built by the Sultan Ahmad Shah in 1423 AD. This monument is a perfect example of Islamic architecture. Masjid has total 260 pillars, carries 15 domes artistically.

Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary:

This Bird sanctuary is situated 45 km away from city. Sanctuary spread over 120 sq km. every year many aquatic spices of birds reach here from different parts of the world. The best season to visit the sanctuary is November to February.

There are so many other places like Calico textile museum, Jhulta Minara, Swaminarayan Gurukul and Indian Institute of Management come under the must visit tourist site category.
