The City of Taj

A city of romance and love, who has a glorious past and most important who has a credit to carry one of the world finest architectural creatures, Taj Mahal. No doubt Taj is a world famous attraction of city, but Agra has many more reasons to visit. Agra is a city with aroma of old flavor with modernity.

History of Agra:

Agra was founded by the local king in 1475. After 29 year, In 1504 Delhi’s sultan Sikandar Lodi declared Agra as capital of his kingdom. But city flourished during a Mughal era, when Mughal Emperor Akbar built Red fort and some other important buildings in Agra.

After Mughal, city fall under the hands of jats and than the Marathas. And finally captured by the British and declared the capital of north-western provinces.

Agra’s Tourist Attractions

Taj Mahal is a major attraction for the tourist, but there are so many other places for visit. And these tourist sights are:

Taj Mahal:

One of the modern Seven Wonders of the World, Taj Mahal is a main reason to visit Agra. This mausoleum was built by the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan on the memory of his loving wife Arjumand Bano Begum or Mumtaz Mahal.

Taj was commissioned in 1631 and took 22 year for completion, with the help of more than 20000 artisans. Taj is situated at the bank of river Yamuna.

Agra Fort:

This fort was commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in year 1565. This fort is one finest model of Mughal architecture. Of late most of the part of this fort is using by army and rest is open for the tourists. This building gives the chance to see a superb architectural model of Mughal era.

Sikandra:

This is a mausoleum of Emperor Akbar. It is a great example of Hindu and Muslim architecture together. This mausoleum was started by Akbar himself and completed by his son Jahangir. Except all such wonderful sights, Agra has a lot more things to explore like Jama Masjid, itmad-ud-Daulah, Chinni ka Roja and, Mariyam’s Tomb etc.
